The primary goal of Project Niu is to help students understand the
important role that they can play in protecting the environment, and
specifically the watershed. On this page, the students contribute
their stories, writing assignments, reflections, hypotheses, etc. as
they relate to their experiences in Project Niu.

This is a little bit late, but its still better than nothing right? First off on the field trip we went to the Pali Lookout. It was really windy up there. I was amazed how powerful erosion was. So now we head on to the beach. At the beach we had to do worksheets each group had to find out.
We saw how dirty the polluted stream was and how it can travel to the ocean which is by heavy rain. Shortly after that we ate lunch, after we finished we had a contest to see which group gets the most trash (which is most likely group 3) . My group got around 200 pieces of trash! . We found a mat that was abandoned on the beach which was really awkward. We found mostly cigarette butts on the beach which people left when they finished smoking. Then we got back on the bus and went back to school. This concludes my story about the Kailua Beach Field Trip!

Last week Thursday we had a field trip and we went to the Pali lookout and we went to Kailua Beach. We went to these places to learn about the watershed proses. We had to pick up trash to prevent from getting into the water at the beach. We found a lot of trash and you would not believe what we found. It is amazing that some people do not dispose of their trash properly and this could harm the marine life if any it got into the water . So I learned that you have to take care of the earth so it will not have as many problems in the future as it does now.

the field trip to the pali look out was really neat{ it was also my frist time going there}except for the bee incident T.T , but other than than the sites were really beautiful. the trip to kailua beach park was also fun scince some of us were making sand-rasengans.[ for those of you who do not watch naruto they were sand balls] it was really sad for me to see how much rubbish we picked up but i'm also glad that we helped out at least a little bit. at the end we found a overflowing sprinkler in the sand and i thought it was fun to make canals for the water.

Hi everyone! Not to long ago we had the chance to go on a field trip for our project.
Our first destination was the Pali lookout were we learned about the hawaiian history and the significance ( Excuse my spelling) of that certain place. After we finished with that we went to Kailua Beach were we checked out the ocean and the currents, ate, and picked up the trash around the area. Although my favorite activity was when we got to pick up trash. I know it sounds gross but it was cool and interesting. For example, we found things from speedos to cans of soda.
We had a great time and learned alot in the progress.

Hi fellow earthlings [not including korsak], this is taylor d.,and wanted to talk about the funist beach [in kailua]. Well firstees we went to the pali lookout to be able to see the view from the inside of the volcanoe, and by the way,i regret not bringing a jacket,it was uber cold.We still learned some kewl and interesting facts though an example is:the holes on the volcanoes, were made from scientists getting samples.
Then we went to the kailua beach. There was this tree that had the roots out of the ground, from erosion. I had observed the color compared to the ocean water, and the fresh water, which was a big difference. We also had tested how much nitrate was in the different waters.Later we ate lunch. After later, we had a really trash clean-up, my group was the awesomest because we picked up s-p-e-e-d-o-e-s, onnly best trrash to pick up.Their was also a learning part in picking up spedoes,it felt good to pick up trash, because by picking up that one speedoes i saved an animals life.
I had a really fun time on this very special field trip.
some sadnesss: we weren't able to go swimming TT.TT
but i still had loads fun! have a nice day!

We went to the Pali Lookout and Kailua Beach. We did observations, we looked around the beach and the lookout to see all the land and water of the beach. We got and picked up garbage for a contest. my team got the most unique trash on the beach. We found things like: gym shorts, a fishing pole, and glass. So that is what we did at our field-trip. Just doing it 808 style! See Ya !!!!

The field trip was great! We learned how the Hawaiians lived before and whet happens to our trash if we littered on the beach. I also learned stuff during lunch! I learned that the small birds like to eat rice and that the big birds like to eat spam!

Oh no! People are writing more than me o___O I should write more too! Okay. So this is about our Field Trip to the Pali lookout and the Kailua Beach.
Pali look out- Hmm. It was not-so cold up at the lookout, but it was windy. Way more windy than it blowing my cousin's slipper and he does have pretty biig feet x.x We learned about why there were holes in the wall as if it had been hole-punched. And as we wondered insidethe volcanoe itself, we saw a very beautiful yellow-black flower. It looked like a new species to me. We saw the mountain sides or whatever you would call it. Well, BACK TO THE BUS.
Kailua Beach- We've been asked to answer these worksheets. So, we walked along the sand and beaches. There was this big, old tree. It looked so coolios. Black and white roots too. Or something. As Ryan said, there was a blue mat-thingy that did something to the sand. Anyways.. We did this experiment thing about the Stream and the Ocean. They weren't so bad, but i forgot what it was for >-<" We also cleaned up the beach, what fun.
Fun fun- EWWW! We found SPEEEDOS!!!!! Pictures are cool. While we ate, Elizabeth was sitting towards the top of the hill and was falling backwards. And niu means coconut so Jake got a coconut =.= The pictures were okay, too.
Psst[ps]- BE CLEAN YOU DARN DIRTY APES >o<"
psst![pss]- I hope we can do almost the same thing as we did that day but even FUNNER! ^-^
