Vision Statement

Ka Na'auao A Me Ke Aloha (Knowledge & Wisdom with Compassion)

Mission Statement

The faculty, staff and families of Kawananakoa Middle School are committed to helping and guiding each student to develop his/her fullest potential, intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally in a positive, caring, supportive, nurturing, attractive and safe school environment, so that he/she can become a productive and contributing member of our society.

School Philosophy

We at Kawananakoa Middle School believe that every child can learn and each student is a unique and valued individual. We at Kawananakoa Middle School believe that:

  • Students of middle school age are experiencing changes which affect their physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development, and the school is responsive to these changes.
  • Students will have educators who provide skills and knowledge, as well as counseling and guidance in character education.
  • Students will be given the opportunity to explore subjects which foster their curiosity, creativity, and ability to excel in a changing world.
  • Student learning will be enhanced when supported by home and community.

Principal's Message (Sandra Ishihara-Shibata)

Kawananakoa Middle School’s vision, to produce future citizens who demonstrate “Ka Na’auao A Me Ke Aloha” (Knowledge and Wisdom with Compassion), has withstood the test of time. Through changes in administration and the dynamic, systemic changes within the Department of Education, this vision continues to be at the forefront of all that we do for our students. The federal No Child Left Behind legislation and the State of Hawaii’s Act 51 legislation are cornerstones of the renewed focus on student learning. Throughout the myriad of change that is happening in public education today, our energies remain devoted to providing the best education for our current and future students of Prince David Kawananakoa Middle School.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our Kawananakoa School’s entire adult role group – the faculty, staff, parents, and community members – that works tirelessly each day to create an atmosphere in which students are continually challenged to learn in a safe and caring environment. I would also like to thank our students for honoring the reputation of our school by showing their pride and dignity throughout the community.

Kawananakoa School is indeed a very special place. We invite you to visit the different locations in our website and get to know our school better.
