This section provides an overview of the lesson plans that can be used for Project Niu’s environmental stewardship components. Most of these lesson plans can be adapted to different grade levels, though some of them (marked as Advanced) are likely to be more appropriate for high school students.
Since environmental stewardship is not included in many states’ educational standards (including Hawaii), all of these lessons are designed to incorporate into different subject areas (science, math, history, government, economics, health, etc.) that are required. Accordingly, there is some overlap in these lessons and with the science lessons also provided with the Project Niu curricula. This gives teachers the flexibility to pick and choose lessons and activities so as to adapt Project Niu to their students’ needs and abilities.
