The Environment, My Community, & Me

Introduction to assess students’ knowledge and activities they currently do relating to the environment (recycling, outdoor activities, etc.). This provides a baseline measure before students start the curriculum and then introduces students to what they will learn throughout the school year.

Goals

  1. Provide a baseline measure for which to later evaluate what students learn in Project Niu
  2. Students will gain an understanding that, as an individual and as a member of a community, they can make choices that will lessen their impact on the environment.
  3. Students will get an overview of what they will learn throughout the school year.

Objectives

  1. Students will write a short statement describing what they think about the importance of protecting the environment.
  2. Provide will answer questions that indicate what they and their families currently do as far as environmentally sustainable practices (recycling, cloth grocery bags, hybrid cars, etc.)
  3. Students will answer questions that assess what they know about various products and practices in terms how good or bad they are in relation to the environment.
